Does the bottom of the gate/rail sit on the floor? I.e the same height as the feet? The image suggests it is slightly higher and ash/cinders may fall through.

This fender is designed to go around the hearth not on top of it. The bottom rail is slightly higher than the feet but when it is positioned around the hearth this will not allow any ash/cinders to leave the hearth area.

Our hearth is exactly 15 X 52 inches so this would sit perfectly on top. But you say it is designed to go around the hearth not sit on top. Is the gap under the front rail too large to work properly if placed on top of the hearth?
