Thanks for your question, the tiles are glazed which means they results in a shiny finish, certainly not matt.

The side of the tile is white, however when the tiles are laid this won't be visible.

You can use these tiles underneath a grate however we would recommend you use a heat plate

The tile thickness is 8mm, you can use normal tiles spacers to space them apart. We think 1mm spacing looks the best when used on hearths.
